St James Holt
What we do now
We are part of the Benefice of Wimborne Minster and the Northern Villages and have three regular services a month:
- 1st Sunday in the month Evensong at 6pm.
- 4th Sunday in the month Parish Communion.
We have special services to commemorate Easter, Harvest and Christmas.
At Christmas we have a traditional service of Nine Lessons and Carols with a special choir led by Elizabeth Curtis.
In January each year we hold a Winter Warmer lunch for our local community and anyone else who would like to attend. This is held to bring us all together at the coldest darkest time of year and great fun is had by all.
At harvest time after our special celebratory service we have a harvest lunch to remind us all that “All good things around us are sent from Heaven above.”
We welcome families each year for weddings, Baptisms and Renewal of vows services. Services are held for our outstanding local school, St James First School. It is a delight to have the children in our church.
Monthly, a time of prayer and quiet reflection is held at the home of one of our members. Also monthly, a Bible Study group is held at another member's home, where we read and learn from the bible together using a study guide. This is an informal, friendly group - no experience necessary to join! (Contact an associate priest to be put in contact with the leader). We learn a lot.
Again monthly, a group meet at one of our local pubs to enjoy good food and conversation.
At St. James we seek to move with the times whilst keeping our much loved traditions. We look for ways to spread God’s word and join in this with our Methodist friends. Each July we hold a joint Songs of Praise Service on Holt Green, or in the church if wet, which unfortunately happens too often!
In an effort to maintain the church we run several events each year to raise money. Recently we have held quizzes, lunches and talks, our lunches are world renowned, well locally anyway!
A big friendly country welcome is extended to all who would like to come to worship with us.
