Youth Work at the Minster

Wimborne Minster's youth groups take varied forms, shaped by the ages and interests of the children and young people involved. Young people can also take part in the Minster's life in other ways, as servers, choristers, as part of Family Service teams, and as helpers at Holiday Club. Young people have been co-opted to work with the PCC and take part in certain PCC committees. Younger children enjoy being part of the weekly Family Service or attending the 9.45 Eucharist. The Minster's groups are run by volunteers from the congregation, or by members of the clergy.

Mega-Quest

This new group has been meeting since September 2006, with members aged between 14 and 16. Many are former members of Quest (see below), and former or current members of the Minster Choir. We mix fun and games with serious discussion about living as Christians. Individual members of this group are also involved with the Family Service. The group meets on Sunday evenings at 7.30.

Quest

Quest meets on Sundays from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. in term time, in Church House, and is for young people aged 913. The range of activities includes crafts and discussions based on videos or current events, as well as games evenings and flag-dancing. Quest plans and leads a Family Service twice a year. Members of Quest and Mega-Quest also enjoy taking part in the Minster Fair in June, where they run a Children's Area. We aim to have relaxed fun while growing in our understanding of Christian life and issues.

Out of the Box

During part of the 9.45 Eucharist on Sundays, younger children can choose to take part in special activities based on that day's Bible readings, in Church House. They are joined by the choristers during the sermon and prayers, and rejoin their parents in time for a blessing at Communion. The activities can include games and crafts, as well as open-ended discussion of the readings, and link up with other special days or events (such as Christian Aid Week). During the service, simplified booklets help children follow what is happening, but they are also welcome to use the Children's Corner and to move around the church.

Easter Workshops

For the last 3 years we have held a Children's Workshop on Good Friday, where children aged from 3 to 11 years have enjoyed lots of activities on an Easter theme including banner making, painting eggs, Easter Gardens, puppet play, biscuit decorating. Following the workshop, together with others, everyone walked to Pamphill to find the Hot Cross buns which grow there every Good Friday!
