Friends of Wimborne Minster
The Friends Annual General Meeting will take place on Sunday, 3 July 2022 at 2:30pm in the Minster. The meeting will be followed by the Friends Evensong at 3:30pm.
The Friends, a registered charity, was founded in 1945 to form an association of all who have the welfare and preservation of Wimborne Minster at heart. It has as its main aims to beautify and enrich the Minster, and to promote and foster interest in, and knowledge of, the Minster's history and records; also to establish a fund which can be used for the preservation and enrichment of the Minster, its contents and precincts.
What do the Friends do?
In the recent past the Friends have raised money for a number of improvements to the minster:
- Choir stalls lighting
- Restoring the Beaufort Window
- Display cases for Chained Library
- A new sound system
- Continued support of the work of the Broderers
- Support for music composed especially for the Minster
What do members receive?
Outings and visits, often to other historic churches, and a chance to talk to the Friends there
Social events and entertainments
Annual Festival Evensong, followed by tea
Annual “Cuthburga” Lecture*
Newsletters
Satisfaction from being involved in supporting the Minster
*In recent years talks have been on music, architecture and history of the Minster and the local area.
